Talking to unfamiliar people – greet them warmly to show your toddler everything is fine

What to try 

• Give your toddler as many experiences as you can to meet new people.  
• Show your toddler that it is great to speak to someone new by giving them a warm welcome.  
• If your toddler seems confident, introduce the unfamiliar person to them and explain why you are talking to them.  
• If your toddler shows signs of being uncomfortable around people they do not know, let them stay close to you and don’t put them under pressure to speak to someone new.
