Talking on the telephone – say hello to Nana
What you need
- Time to call, or video call, family and friends
What to do
- When you speak with family and friends on the phone, encourage your baby to say hello and goodbye to them.
- Pause for your toddler to copy your words.
- Some names can be tricky to pronounce, so don’t expect your baby to say the name exactly as it should be.
Good to know
Your toddler might be a little shy when on the phone. Don’t pressure them to speak; let them get used to the idea. You could practice using a toy phone to build their confidence first, or even have a go at talking to each other at home on phones, or walkie talkies if you have them.
