Surround sounds – help your baby locate where a sound is coming from

What you need

  • Friends or family to help

What to do

  1. Sit with your baby somewhere where they can hear, but not see the friends and family who are playing.
  2. Ask your family member or visitor to attract your baby’s attention by making a sound.
  3. They could call your baby’s name or make another sound, such as a click or clap.
  4. Pause and see if your baby looks towards the direction of the sound.
  5. If they don’t, you could prompt this by turning or pointing.

Good to know

Try playing this game at first with everyone in sight and see if your baby can show you who made the sound, by looking, going over to the person or pointing.
