Story based play – acting out a familiar story using props from home

What you need 

• Stories based on familiar situations – such as bedtime, mealtimes or a party 

What to do 

• Read the story together and chat about what happens at each point.  
• For example, if you read a story about bedtime you could ask your toddler if they think the character wants to go to bed.  
• Talk about what the characters are doing but also how they are feeling.  
• You could talk about the ways the story is similar, and different, to the same routine in your home.
