Squeeze a sock – making a simple fine motor toy for your baby

Building up the strength in your baby’s hands will help them to develop the fine motor skills needed to turn pages in books. Encourage your baby to press, squeeze and squash objects during their play to give their fingers a range of challenges. Dough or clay is a wonderful resource for this, but if you aren’t in a place to handle the mess you can try filling a sock with a small amount of flour and letting your baby explore this. It’s a great texture for squeezing and squidging! Always supervise your baby when they are playing, as they will explore the items with their mouth.
