Sorting the washing – which clothes belong to who?
What to do
- When you’re ready to put clean clothes away, invite your toddler to help you with sorting it.
- Describe the clothing using terms like ‘big’ and ‘small’.
- Make two piles of clothing: one for big clothing and one for small clothing.
- Encourage your toddler to think about which pile each item belongs to.
Good to know
There might be some puzzling items, such as underwear, in the laundry and your toddler might confuse an adult sock for a small item of clothing. If this happens, praise them for thinking creatively about the size. There is no wrong answer, and it's not a test, so view this as a chance to learn more about how your toddler sees their world.
