What you need

  • A pillow or cushion. Alternatively, this can be played with a soft ball, soft toy, or a large pair of socks if your pillows or cushions are too big.

What to do

  1. Choose a space at home where you can practise throwing a pillow to one another.
  2. You could both sit on a bed, stand in the kitchen or have one person sitting on a sofa and one standing. Choose whichever format suits you, your toddler and your home.
  3. Gently throw the pillow to your toddler. They might not catch it every time, but this is fine.
  4. Encourage your toddler to throw it back – if you don’t catch it every time, that’s good for your toddler to see!
  5. Carry on playing catch until your toddler shows or tells you they have had enough.
