What to try
- If you’re somewhere noisy but need your toddler’s attention, change the tone of your voice – you could even try singing their name.
- If your toddler doesn’t seem to hear you at first, pause in case it is taking a little longer for them to process what you’ve said due to the background noise, then repeat their name, or give them a gentle tap so they look at you, before speaking to them.
Good to know
When it’s busy and noisy, it can be more challenging to get your toddler’s attention. They are still learning to block out background noise and focus on what someone might be saying.
