What you need
- Different items of interest, like shiny, wooden, soft and textured objects
- Soft, safe surface to place your baby on
What to do
- When they are on their back, show your baby different items by bringing the objects in front of their view.
- You could use a baby gym to give them different objects to look at, adding items that are reflective. Always make sure that any overhanging toys or objects are securely attached, and don't leave your baby unsupervised on a baby gym or playmat.
Good to know
Your baby won't quite be ready to reach out to these items or grasp them, but they may show an interest in them and be taking small steps towards this movement.
If you don't have a baby gym or activity mat, you could hold some eye-catching objects about 30cm from your baby's face and give them time to focus before swapping them over.
