Sharing daily giggles – time with your toddler to explore humour
What to do
- Your baby is starting to explore what makes you and other people around them laugh.
- You can help your baby as they develop this understanding by simply spending time with them each day. This could be a shared funny story before bed, giggling as you chat with them as you make a meal or giving them a little tickle as you get them dressed.
Good to know
We laugh more when we are with people, so simply having time when you fully focus on your toddler will support them to develop humour, as well as communication skills.
They will probably repeat things that the people around them laugh at, and this might sometimes lead to them repeating some things that you would rather they didn’t! It’s all part of the joyful unpredictability of being a parent of a toddler!
