Rhyme time – pick the object that rhymes

What you need

  • A selection of objects or pictures

What to do

  1. Put the objects or pictures in front of your child.
  2. Tell them you’re going to say a word and they need to get the object or picture that rhymes as quickly as they can. For example, you might have a toy cat and say "sat" or a picture of a truck and say "stuck".
  3. Say a word, and give your child time to pick up the object that rhymes.
  4. When they’ve picked it up, repeat the two words together.
  5. Play for as long as they’re interested, you could swap so they say the words and you pick up the objects.
