Ready, steady go – games to encourage excitement and anticipation
What you need
- Favourite toys – this could be a car that rolls, building blocks that make a tower or something that you can make move
What to try
- Play some simple ready, steady, go games with your baby.
- Think about games linked to your baby’s favourite things – so this could be saying, “Ready, steady, go”, before rolling a car down a slope, knocking down a tower or lifting your baby up into the air.
- Pause between ‘ready’ and ‘go’ so your baby can feel the excitement and anticipation.
Good to know
Your baby might need you to notice when the game is getting a bit too exciting and help them to stop and calm again. This is also something that can be done anywhere – at home or on the go!
