Reach for the stars (or toys) – make a simple mobile for your baby
What to try
- Now that your baby can reach out and grab objects when lying on their back, you can add a little bit of challenge for them by having the object on the end of a ribbon or string so it moves slightly.
- You can use a mobile toy you already have and allow your baby to reach for the toys when they are lying on their back.
- Make sure the toys are within reach, so that your baby doesn't become frustrated.
Good to know
If you want to make your own mobile, find some light toys or household items (plastic Christmas baubles are perfect for this, as the shiny surface is intriguing for little ones) and attach them to pieces of ribbon or string, or even some elastic if you have it.
You can hold these above your child as they are lying down, or if you have a baby gym or play frame you can attach ribbons to this.
Always supervise your baby with a mobile – homemade or otherwise. Keep in mind that once they can reach it they may be able to pull it down, so check the height of any mobiles hanging over their play and sleep space.
