What you need
- A broom, or mop, that you are happy to get a bit dirty
What to try
- If you have lots of puddles in a safe outside space, give your toddler a broom (you can get small ones).
- Encourage them to sweep away the puddle. As your toddler works hard to brush up and move the water, they will be engaging all the large muscles in their body.
- For more excitement, add some environmentally-friendly washing-up liquid to create lots of bubbles to sweep away.
Good to know
If they are using an adult-sized broom it will be fantastic for their gross motor skills but be aware that your toddler might not realise how far the handle sticks out behind them as they sweep, so make sure the area is safe and they have plenty of space.
