Pinch and pull – making your own pull along toys
What you need
- Ribbon, or a long piece of fabric, or a scarf
- Toys with wheels, or smooth toys which will move across the ground fairly easily
What to do
- Attach one end of the ribbon to the toy using a double knot.
- Stretch it out and place the other end within your baby’s reach.
- Encourage them to grasp the ribbon and pull it towards them to discover the toy.
- You may need to show your baby how to do this at first.
- Give lots of praise when they get hold of the toy – what an achievement!
Good to know
Often shop-bought pull-along toys have thin string attached, which can be hard to get a good grip on until your baby has had more of a chance to develop their pincer grip. Using a thicker piece of ribbon or fabric will make it much easier for your baby to hold.
Depending how much they are moving around, your baby might enjoy this most when they are sitting up to play and can watch the toy as it moves towards them.
