Percussion time – Getting to grips with musical instruments

What to do
Set out your toddler’s musical instruments and play some music.
If possible, use a variety of drums and drumsticks, shakers, cymbals and triangles.
Consider how your toddler holds instruments (if you can, provide some that encourage a variety of grips).
Sit together and play along to the music.
While you're listening to music, make sure your toddler switches and changes instruments so they can vary their grasp.
