Welcome to the My First Five Years Blog. Here you will find all sorts of information, ideas and activities that will help you to support your child.
You will notice that your baby is starting to explore what makes you and other people around them laugh. They might try tickling you, although might not quite have the control and awareness of their body to get the amount of pressure right. You can help your baby as they develop this understanding by simply spending time with them each day. This could be a shared story before bed, chatting with them as you make a meal or get them dressed. We laugh more when we are with people so simply having some time when you fully focus on your baby will support them to develop humour, as well as communication skills.
Sit facing your baby or next to them so they can see your hands and face as you sing. Sing ‘Wind the bobbin up,’ and do the actions with your hands.

This is a messy activity, so you’ll need an area that’s fine to get wet. Be prepared to clean your baby and get them changed!
