What to try 

• While you are changing your baby's nappy, show them the nappy and comment “Oh, here is your nappy.”  
• Talk about the nappy routine by saying things like, “Let’s take this nappy off.”  
• When you reach for wipes or your choice of cleaning product, show it to them and tell them what you are using.  
• If your baby catches your eye, enthusiastically name the item in your hand again.  
• Continue to talk about the items you are using with your baby, naming them and showing them. 
• You could try narrating your changing time using a singing tone; this could make it more exciting for your baby and will further support the development of early interactions.
