One little finger – an action song to encourage hand movements
What to do
- Sing the song ‘One Little Finger’ to your baby.
- While you sing the first part of the line, “One little finger,” stroke your baby’s fingers and the palms of their hands. The gentle touch of your fingers may encourage them to move their hands in response to the feeling.
- Gently tap your baby’s lips with their hands to the words “tap, tap, tap.”
Good to know
Gently moving your baby’s fingers to their mouths will help them to learn about their body. They still do not realise that they have hands, and that they can use them to put things in their mouths.
Your baby learns through the sensation of touch, and they will eventually absorb information around them through touching and placing things in their mouths. Touch is important for babies and plays a big role in how they learn, discover and develop.
One little finger, one little finger, one little finger, tap tap tap.
Two little fingers, two little fingers, two little fingers, tap tap tap.
Three little fingers, three little fingers, three little fingers, tap tap tap.
Four little fingers, four little fingers, four little fingers, tap tap tap.
Five little fingers, five little fingers, five little fingers, tap tap tap.
