What to try
- Move close to where your toddler is when you’re trying to gain their attention.
- If they still don’t hear you, move closer to them.
- Get down to their level and look at their face. This helps catch their attention and you can also see when they are ready to listen.
- Gently touch their arm or hand if you think your toddler will respond well to touch.
- Try to refrain from shouting their name as this might shock them, then they may not be able to concentrate on what it is you’re saying.
