What to do
- Look in the mirror together.
- Tell your child some of the positive things you think about them, and then get them to repeat these as affirmations.
- You can make up any affirmations which feel good to you.
- Some simples ones to use are, “I am kind.” “I am funny.” “I am loved.”
- Think of some for yourself, too, so your child can see how you remember the positive things about yourself.
- Make them part of your daily routine, perhaps saying them when getting dressed in the morning, or as part of your child’s bedtime routine.
