One, two… Enjoy number rhymes and songs together
What to do
- Say or sing a number rhyme a couple of times – straight through without a pause.
- When your toddler has heard it a few times, say it again but pause briefly before a number so they can fill the gap.
- You could do the same when counting the steps; count yourself and occasionally pause – your toddler probably won’t be able to resist filling in the gap!
Good to know
Lots of songs and rhymes count backwards, but sometimes counting upwards can be good too. Why not try this rhyme?
Here is the Beehive
Here is the beehive (make a fist)
Where are the bees?
Hiding inside where nobody sees
Watch them come creeping out of the hive
One, two, three, four, five (release one finger at a time from the fist/hive)
…BUZZ-ZZZ (wiggle fingers)
