Meeting friends and family – talking about who is there before you say hello

What to do

  • When you arrange to meet family or friends, talk with your toddler about who you are meeting and how you might greet them.
  • You could say something like, “We are going to meet Aunty Jamila and Qasim in the park. I can’t wait to see them and say hello. When we arrive in the park, we will have to look out for them. We might need to shout their names to get their attention if they are busy playing.”

Good to know

Looking at photos of family and friends together can be another good way to talk about everyone’s names.
