Making sounds inside and out – can your baby locate where the sound is coming from?
This is an idea for when you are not on your own with your baby. Family members or friends can be invited to join in with this lovely little game – older siblings would love to play if it is safe for them to do so.
Hold your baby in your arms next to a ground-level window. Ask your family member or visitor to attract your baby’s attention by making a sound. The sound could be vocal or something like a clap.
When your baby responds, quietly ask your child or visitor to go outside and make the same sound in front of the window you are standing at. When the sound has been made, praise your baby if they turn to look outside. You could say, “Oh well done, you found {insert name} outside. What are they doing?” Beckon them to come back in and when they can see your baby, make the same sound again. This can be repeated for as long as your baby is excited and interested.
