Making requests during play – your baby is following instructions today

What you need 

• Space on the floor 
• Toys or a book 

What to do 

1. Invite your baby to play.  
2. Sit on the floor and say your baby’s name. 
3. Encourage them to come to you.  
4. When your baby comes to you, gently say, “Sit down.”  
5. Give your baby the time to adjust their position into a seated one.  
6. Choose a toy or a book that is close to your baby and within their reach. 
7. Say to them, “Ooh, I would like to look at that book. Can you pass me the book please?”
