Make your own jigsaw – a quick and easy game to make, play, and adapt

What you need

  • Paper
  • A small selection of toys
  • Pencil or pen

What to do

  1. Make your own shape-matching game by drawing around your toys!
  2. Set out some paper or scrap cardboard.
  3. Select a few favourite toys to draw around. Simple shapes like squares, rectangles, circles and triangles are a good place to start – building block sets would be a good option.
  4. Draw around a few toys, leaving clear outlines on the paper. Start with just two or three and add more as your toddler gets used to the game.
  5. Place the toys you have drawn around next to the paper.
  6. Invite your toddler to match the shapes. You may need to show them what to do during the first go.

Good to know

You can make the game more challenging by finding other, less obvious shapes, such as jigsaw pieces, small plastic figures, cars – anything you like!
