Make salt dough decorations
Salt dough is a great alternative to traditional play dough and better yet, you can harden and keep your creations forever. They make brilliant gifts for family and friends.
How to make it:
Ingredients
- 250g of plain flour
- 125g of salt
- 125ml of water
How to:
- Warm up the oven on its lowest setting.
- Prepare an oven proof tray by lining it with baking parchment.
- Combine all the ingredients and stir until it forms a ball.
- On a floured surface, practise rolling, cutting and making any shapes you like.
- Let your toddler get creative with their tools and try not to worry about what the final decoration will look like – the learning for them really is in the process.
- Put in the oven for 3 hours.
- Leave them to cool and then you can paint.
- You can varnish your items after the paint has dried using PVA glue.
Note that these are not edible – but they might look delicious to your toddler, especially when they see the dough being baked, so ensure they are supervised at all times and don’t try to bite the salt dough.
