Make foam dough!

What you need

  • Shaving foam (choose a sensitive foam to make sure this doesn’t irritate your toddler's skin)
  • Cornflour
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon (optional)

What to do

  1. Pop equal amounts of shaving foam and cornflour into the bowl.
  2. Help your toddler to combine the cornflour and shaving foam.
  3. Your toddler can mix the ingredients with their hands, or they might prefer to use a spoon to start with and then use their hands when the ingredients are beginning to form a dough.
  4. If the dough seems too dry, suggest adding more shaving foam, and if it seems too wet, add some more cornflour.
  5. Once they (and you) are happy with the texture, play with it just like you would with any other dough and enjoy discovering all the different textures it can have.

Good to know

Making foam dough is great for your toddler’s exploration of textures, and the best part is, you don’t need to measure the ingredients!

Your toddler might enjoy mixing the ingredients so much that they don’t get round to playing with the dough the first time you make it. They are still learning lots from the experience of mixing it up.

This could be an activity that's repeated several times before they're interested in playing with the dough they make.
