Make a song box for your baby – songs are great for learning words

What you need 

• Five toys to represent a song (for example, a bus for ‘Wheels on the bus’ or a toy animal for ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’) 
• A cardboard box 

What to do 

1. Place the toys in the box. 
2. Sit your baby in front of you. 
3. Encourage them to choose an object and praise them when they do. 
4. Sing the song to your baby and give them lots of encouragement if they attempt to say any words or sounds from the song.
