Look through the window, what can we see?
What to do
- You might choose to look out of the window or you could go outside.
- Talk with your toddler about what other people, vehicles or animals are doing.
- Choose a few words to look out for, like driving, flying and walking. You could say, “I think we'll see someone walking next. What do you think we'll see?” Don’t worry if your toddler doesn’t answer, they are still learning how to use language.
- Comment on what you can see.
- Don’t ask too many questions as your toddler might become bored with answering.
Good to know
If you ask your toddler what they would like to see and they don’t answer, don’t worry, this is developmentally normal. Don’t feel like you must wait for an answer, simply hearing your words helps them to make sense of how they can use words.
You might make a comment like, “I would also like to see a big bus driving; it would be great if we can see people get on the bus and sit down.”
