What to do
- Go on a nature hunt in a nearby forest or woodland, or your local park.
- Encourage your child to look for natural objects like leaves or sticks as you walk along.
- Look for opportunities for them to search on uneven or sloped ground to challenge their balance.
- Support them to explore moving up and down slopes as they investigate a new place.
- See what you can see behind trees and gates and explore moving on and off the path.
Good to know
Visiting wild spaces will challenge your child to experiment with how to move across more difficult surfaces. They will have to rebalance themselves and change their movements when faced with different slopes, which is brilliant for their gross motor development.
