Look at you! Commentary at the park

What you need

  • A park or access to play equipment your toddler enjoys using

What to do

  • Comment about what your toddler is doing.
  •  Be clear and keep your language simple. For example, “You are swinging so high! You are going up the slide.”
  • If you talk about what you are doing, use ‘I’ or ‘Me’ instead of talking about yourself as ‘Mummy’ or ‘Daddy’.

Good to know

Using simple comments about what your toddler and others are doing and responding to their comments will give them lots of examples of how you use words. This will help your toddler as they begin to use sentences themselves to speak.
