What to try
- When your baby is awake and comfortable, give them some time to move, listen and look around.
- Give them a little time when they first wake up and notice the sounds they make.
- Adapt your response to different sounds, for example, if your baby cries, use compassionate tones and expressions. If they gurgle, comment on what you think might have caused the sound.
- It really doesn’t matter what you say as your baby is simply linking your responses to their sounds.
