Listen to my sounds – this is my way of communicating with you
What to try
When your baby is awake and comfortable, give them some time to move, listen and look around.
Give them a little time when they first wake up and notice the sounds they make.
Adapt your response to different sounds, for example, if your baby cries, use compassionate tones and expressions. If they gurgle, comment on what you think might have caused the sound.
It really doesn’t matter what you say as your baby is simply linking your responses to their sounds.
