Lily pad leap – practise leading legs

What you need

  • Cushions or pillows

What to do

  • Tell your child they are going to be a jumping frog!
  • Take the cushions off your sofa to make a lily pad path around your floor.
  • Place them quite close together to begin with and move them further apart as and when it’s appropriate for their skills.
  • Encourage your child to jump from one lily pad to another, it doesn’t matter if they land in the pond (on the floor), frogs love getting wet!
  • Your frog can also choose to jump into the pond, or to jump from the pond back onto a lily pad. As long as they are practising jumping and having fun, anything goes.
  • You can recreate this game outside using garden cushions or other flat markers.

Don’t play this using cushions if you have a hard floor as the 'lily pads' may slide around; it is safest on carpet. If you have hard floors you could mark the lily pads out with masking tape or chalk instead.

Always stay near to your little frog throughout the game and find a space to set up the game where there are no potential dangers if they do miss the cushion.
