Lift the flap books – excellent for practising page-turning skills
What you need
- A few books with flaps to lift
What to do
- Choose a lift-the-flap book when you’re reading with your toddler.
- Show them how to lift the flap and then put it back before turning the page. Show them, and maybe tell them, how you use one or two fingers to lift the flap rather than your whole hand.
- Let them have a turn lifting the flaps and turning the pages. They may struggle to catch the edge of a flap at first, so making sure it is slightly open, a little bit away from the page, can help to make sure your toddler doesn’t become frustrated.
- They might be a bit rough at first, so be ready with some tape to repair any flaps that are opened a bit too enthusiastically!
