Let's see how this nappy-changing experience works – Joshua, would you like to watch and find out?

During nappy changing time, show your baby what you are doing and using. Exaggerate your movements, so when you take off the nappy and place it in the bin, show your baby the nappy and how you move it to one side.

Find your wipes and say, “Here are your wipes.” Slowly move the wipes above your baby’s head and crunch the packet, say “I’m going to get one out.”

Really exaggerate the motions of opening the packet and removing a wipe. Slowly place the packet to the side of your baby so they have a chance to watch what is happening. You could even give your baby’s tummy a little wipe, then their shoulder, and their nose.

All these playful moves can encourage your baby to gently move their head. When you get a clean nappy, bring it to one side of your baby’s body, and then above their head saying, “Here is your clean nappy, shall we put it on?” Keep up with the slow, exaggerated movements throughout the change, allowing your baby plenty of time to watch.
