Let’s find a stick man – go for a walk and collect some sticks
What to do
- Go for a walk in a woodland or a park or footpath with trees (so you know you’ll find sticks)
- Tell your child that you’re going to find some sticks.
- When they choose a stick talk to them about it, focusing on size and shape “Oh you’ve found a short one, let’s look for a long stick next.”
- Keep walking, collecting and chatting about the sticks for as long as your child is interested.
- If you don’t want to take the sticks home talk to your child about that as you go, so they know they’ll be leaving the sticks next to a tree when you’ve finished.
