What you need
- A recipe
- Ingredients
- Kitchen essentials
What to do
- Involve your baby when you’re making food: they could hold some ingredients or a safe utensil, like a wooden spoon. Remember: they might have a taste so make sure anything they touch is safe to be eaten raw.
- When it’s safe to do so, let your baby add ingredients to the bowl or have a try stirring the mixture. If there’s nothing they can easily help with, simply giving them a small bowl and wooden spoon means they can copy your actions as you work.
- Chat with your baby about what you’re doing as you follow the recipe, so they can begin to see how one step follows another.
Always supervise your baby while they are around food or eating.
