Activity Two

Large drawings on the floor – stretch those muscles and watch those marks

What you need

  • A large sheet of paper – the back of an old roll of wallpaper, or a flattened cardboard box.
  • Chalk, or crayons.

What to do

  1. Find a flat, fairly smooth surface and put the paper down (be aware that your child might draw over the edges of the paper so put it on a surface that can be wiped clean).
  2. Encourage your toddler to lie on their tummy and draw on the paper.

 Good to know

When they move their arms, muscles in their upper body stretch and shorten to enable them to move to and fro. Your toddler’s eyes will follow the path of the chalk, pencils, pens, or paint and this will help them to feel where their arms are moving to, which will help with other skills like putting on a coat.
