Lamplight lullaby – letting your baby discover soft evening lighting
What you need
- A lamp or soft light
What to do
- Position your baby so that they can see the diffused light from the lamp by turning their head.
- See how they respond. You might notice them watching the shadows the light causes or choosing to look for the source of light itself.
- Make sure the light is not too bright, and if you need to have a bright light on, think about hanging or holding a thin cloth (like a muslin) between your baby and the light to make it softer.
- This can be a wonderful time for a lullaby about light, such as ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’.
Good to know
When you sing ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ you can wave your hands in front of the light, so it looks like the light is twinkling.
