Labelling for certainty – in case someone else has the same toy or item

What to try

  • Put a name label on your toddler’s clothes, on favourite toys (if you can find a suitable place) and write their name in the front of their books.
  • Show your toddler the place on the item where you've written their name.

Good to know

Your toddler might not understand that two of the same toys can exist and may become unhappy if they see another child playing with the same toy.

When your toddler’s items are labelled, you can try to explain that their items have their name on the label. Your toddler won’t be able to read their name, but they may be able to tell the difference between the labels.
