Open and close those hands at nursery rhyme time

What to do

  1. Sing nursery rhymes like, ‘The Wheels on the Bus,’ ‘Two Little Dickie Birds,’ and ‘Three Little Ducks.’
  2. When your toddler copies some of the actions, encourage them to press their thumb to their fingers before opening them wide once more.
  3. So, in a verse of ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ you might sing, “The children on the bus go chatter, chatter, chatter...” Create the chatter action by opening and closing the thumb and fingers.
  4. Show your toddler how to make their hands look like a bird beak opening and closing in ‘Two Little Birds,’ and ‘Three Little Ducks.’
  5. Think of other rhymes and songs where you can include the same action.
