Keep your toddler involved – use words they might understand when you’re chatting with other people

What to try

  • When chatting, involve your toddler in the conversation as much as you can.
  • Your toddler might not understand everything you are talking about, but you could place emphasis on certain words that you know your toddler will understand.
  • For instance, you might be telling a friend that you are going to the park on Friday. You can involve your toddler by saying, “Yes, the park! I’m telling Suzie that we are going to the park on Friday. You like the swings when we go to the park.”
