Involve your toddler in problem solving
What to try
- When you’re doing day-to-day tasks that might involve some simple problem solving, share your thinking with your toddler. An example might be you talking through how you fix a book that is ripped, or how you get to something you can't reach.
- Invite your toddler to help with a task. Say you need help transporting toys or shopping from one room to another, explain you don’t know how to move them, and you need their help. Listen to their thoughts and come up with a plan together.
Good to know
Talking through problem-solving will support your toddler to do the same, while also extending their knowledge and skills.
