Share stories with repeated phrases
What you need
- Stories with a repeated phrase, for example, Oh Dear by Rod Campbell, The Gruffalo: A push, pull and slide book by Julia Donaldson
What to try
- Find a quiet time to read with your toddler – depending on your routine, bedtime can be a good time to share a story.
- Sit comfortably together and make sure your toddler can see the pictures.
- Read the story and occasionally pause before the repeated phrase so your toddler can say it.
- Sometimes hand the storytelling over to them – they might say a few words and the repeated phrase as they ‘read’ the story to you.
