In and out – practising alternate nostril breathing

What to do 

  1. Find somewhere comfortable to sit together.  
  2. Show your toddler how to take a deep breath through their nose, keeping their mouth closed.  
  3. Then show them how to hold one nostril closed with their thumb and breath in and out through the other.  
  4. Then swap and breath in an out through the other nostril, repeat this several times.  

Good to know 

This will help your toddler to become aware of how it feels to breath in and out of each nostril. This awareness will help them when they need to blow their nose, and might help them to feel calm and relaxed.
