How was today? Use an end of day chat to help your toddler feel proud
What to try
- Choose a time when you are both calm and there aren’t too many distractions. (The end of the day might not always be the best time for you and your toddler, so adjust this to fit your routine.)
- Ask a simple question to start a conversation, “What was the best thing that happened today?”
- Give your toddler time to think and answer; if they aren’t sure what to say, you could tell them something about your day.
- When you’re talking about something you’ve achieved or feel proud about, focus on the process not just the outcome. You could say something like, “I’ve been working really hard to write a report, and today I finished it and I felt really proud.”
