How do you feel about letting them pour their own drink?
What you need
- Small jug
- A cup
What to do
- Put some water into the jug and place it and a cup on a surface that your toddler can stand at comfortably.
- Place the jug handle centrally – so your toddler can decide their preferred hand to pick up and pour.
- Encourage your toddler to pour themselves a drink.
- Stand back and offer encouragement but try not to help unless they get frustrated.
- Be prepared for some spills, your toddler might find it difficult to think about when they need to stop, or to hold the cup still as they pour.
Good to know
You might find at first that this is a huge novelty and pouring is all they want to do... and that is fine. Let them take their time. As the days go on, their precision will improve and they will soon be able to serve their own water with ease.
