Encourage your toddler to stretch to reach their toys
What you need
- A table placed against a wall
- A large toy, such as a car garage, doll house, kitchen or anything that might interest your toddler and encourage them to reach and stretch up
- Cars, dolls or other toys that can be played with alongside the large toy
What to do
- Pop the large toy on the tabletop.
- Put the other toys on top of the large toy, or as high up as your toddler can reach.
- Sit close to your toddler while they play.
- Narrate your toddler’s play and say things like, “I can see you trying to reach for teddy, take your time, I like the way you are stretching.”
- Show your toddler how you use your tiptoes to reach for toys at the far end of the table.
